Special Season Comes To An End at State Championships

On Saturday at Solano College, the remarkable season came to an end for the women's volleyball team at MiraCosta College. After winning 19 matches in a row, a conference championship, and sweeping their first two opponents in the CCCAA state playoffs, the Spartans dropped a close match to Delta College by a 3-1 score. In the final match MiraCosta dropped the first game but rallied back to win the second game before losing the next two games. Final scores were 20-25, 25-21, 18-25, 28-25. 

The Spartans had a balanced attack offensively led by sophomores Reilly Bosworth, Claire Kinder, Claudia Mathews, Chloe Tripp and Violeti Faleumu.  Sophomore setter Hayley Huntsman added 40 assists and 14 digs.  Jazleigh Ortiz (19 digs) and Angela Docena (12 digs) both contributed on the defensive side of the net for the Spartans.  MiraCosta finishes the season in the Elite Eight with a final record of 26-7.
