MiraCosta Sweeps Ranked El Camino in Three Games

The build up for Friday's game between MiraCosta College (#15 in the state) and El Camino College (#9 in the state) was full of excitement. The winner would have another quality win for future state tournament seeding purposes and in general, would have momentum returning to their conference schedules.  Despite the build up, once the team hit the floor MiraCosta did enough for a three game sweep against a resilient Warrior team. The 3-0 win finished with final scores of 25-20, 25-23 and 25-21.

In the first game El Camino was slow to get their rhythm, falling behind early.  After calming down, the Warriors fought back only to lose a close first game.  A similar story line took place in the second game.  In a competitive game that could've gone either way the Spartans made key plays and snuck away with the second game by a narrow margin.

In the third game El Camino was the aggressor and the Spartans were the team that found themselves behind.  After a key time out by Coach Kristen Wright the Spartans recovered and turned a deficit into a 20-19 lead on a big point from Reilly Bosworth.  In the final four points the Spartans earned scores by Jillian Nickens and Halie Hess.

The win makes the 17th for the Spartans, 10th in a row, and the fourth win against a top 25 team in the state of California.  Next week MiraCosta returns to PCAC conference play at San Bernardino Valley College on Wednesday and at home versus Palomar College on Friday at 6pm.
