Spartans Earn Conference Championship

On Friday the MiraCosta College women's volleyball team went on the road with a chance to guarantee a conference championship.  After a 3-1 win at San Bernardino Valley College the #6 team in the state secured the title in just their third year as a program. The Spartans improve to 22-2 and 7-0 in conference.

Sophomore Mailia Sellers suited up as the libero in place for Cady Francis who was nursing an injury.  Sellers had an impressive fifteen digs to anchor the defense.  Setters Cady Delay (21) and Andrianna Visesio (16) distributed the ball to the many options MiraCosta has has on offense.  Claire Kinder had a strong night with 16 kills hitting a .429.  Maddison Penrod and Makayla Sua hit 9 and 8 respectively.  Claudia Mathews made an impact with three blocks.

In three short years the coaching duo of Kristen Wright (Indoor) and Doug Wright (Beach) have created a state powerhouse.  This indoor championship makes the third conference championship in as many years.  Championships include team championship on the beach (2015), an individual beach duo championship (2016) and an indoor championship in the current season (2016).  Coach Kristen Wright was also just recently inducted into the San Diego Breitbard Hall of Fame as a coaching Legend at the age of 33.

The Spartans will play their final conference match on Tuesday, November 8th, at MiraCosta College against Palomar College.  The match will begin at 6pm and will be a night that the program honors the sophomores for the impressive work they have done on the court and in the classroom.
