Historic Season Brings Conference Championship and More

In his second season with the MiraCosta College women's soccer team, head coach Matt Hall has created a culture of excellence. In his short time leading the program, Hall has recruited an talented roster, employeed high level strategies, and built a culture that allows student-athletes to play together with incredible confidence. With their 12-0-2 record in PCAC play, the program has won its first ever confernece championship and secures their place in the 3C2A state playoffs.

Leading into their last regular season game, the Spartans are 16-1-2, undefeated in conference play, and one of the top teams in the state of California. Their conference undefeated streak demonstrates the sheer dominance of the MiraCosta squad over anyone that stepped on the pitch with them. They outscored their conference opponents 76-3. Nine rostered athletes scored five or more goals, led by Lena Bachman (14), Roselyn Hernandez (10), Elisa Dunn (9) and Aleah Minnich (8). Seven Spartan athletes have five or more assists, led by Jazmyne Arispe (13), Jordan Fawcett (9), Aleah Minnich (8), Elisa Dunn (6) and Marolyn Clark, Roselyn Hernandez and Julisa Pena all with five.

Their defensive line is stellar, anchored by Minnich, Araceli Mejia, Emily Rivera, Clark and Dunn. Goalkeeper Arely Sarabia has been strong, showing the ability to play with her feet as well as lead with her voice. The midfield and attacking players have been dynamic in creating scoring chances and have shown speed, skill and the will to find the back of the net. Quite possibly the most important component of the Spartan team is that they have quality in their depth, from the top to the bottom of their roster.
