Spartans Earn First Championship in Program History

The MiraCosta women's soccer team has done it! With the win against their cross town rivals, the Spartans have secured the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference championship. This is the first championship for the women's soccer program, and they did it with an impressive undefeated run in conference play. In addition to the championship, the Spartans are also going to 3C2A state playoffs, with an overall record of 15-1-1, and a #6 ranking in the state.

Last night the Spartans played Palomar College, dominating every aspect of the game and winning 4-0. Unlike most programs, Coach Matt Hall's style of play allows his outside back to be active in every play. He focuses on getting them high up on the field impeding on the back line. The outside backs proved this yesterday at the Comet's field with a goal during the first half from left-back Elisa Dunn and a goal from right-back Araceli Mejia during the second half.

Lena Bachman still holds her place as the top goal scorer during her freshman year this season, with 14 goals after playing the Comets. The Spartan midfielders were constantly in the action, demonstrated by Jordan Fawcett with a goal in the second half and an assist to Elisa Dunn. Julisa Pena brought the energy too, with a goal as soon as she got onto the field first half, and  also assisting Araceli Mejia second half.

The Spartans play their last conference home game this Friday, November 3rd against Mesa at 3pm.
