Fawcett Scores, Spartans Hold on to Win at Mesa

Monse Ayala gets ready to kick the ball in a recent game.

The MiraCosta women's soccer team has been steadily improving.  They entered the conference match up with San Diego Mesa College with a 10-1-1 record, and with their eyes on the post season.  Tuesday's night match under the lights was the second time the two teams would face eachother, with the first match ending in a very competitive 1-0 victory for the Spartans.  This time around MiraCosta drove home to Oceanside with the same result.

Despite a tough Mesa defensive line, the Spartans found a couple opportunities, and capitalized in the 25th minute when freshman Jordan Fawcett scored.  MiraCosta's defense was equally prepared for the match, anchored by sophomores Casey Martinez and Katy King.  Goalkeeper Tristyn Wright played all 90 minutes and finished with four saves.  Including this result, the Spartans have nine shutouts in their last 10 matches and appear to be growing into a top team in the state.

The MiraCosta women's soccer team is next in action on Tuesday when they play at non-conference opponent, San Bernardino Valley College. The Spartan's last conference match will be on Friday, November 11th, when they host Miramar College at 1PM.

The Spartans are currently in second place in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference standings and are 14th in the southern region power point rankings.
