In one of the best ways you can start a match offensively, the MiraCosta College women's soccer team scored on its first possession and did so again a few minutes later to run away with an 11-0 win over a short-handed Imperial Valley College squad.

MiraCosta (3-7-1 overall), was dominant against an Imperial Valley (0-8) team with only 10 players. The win marked the beginning of the first winning streak of the season for the Spartans, and was also the second time this season MiraCosta reached the six-goal plateau.

Valerie Mathys shined for MiraCosta, scoring the first two goals of the match in the first and third minutes, adding another goal to start the scoring in the second half (52nd minute) for a hat trick, and finishing with three assists for a total of nine points on the day.

Peyton Brittain was right behind Mathys with two goals herself, coming in back-to-back fashion right after Mathys' two goals (13th and 16th minutes).

The fifth goal of the opening half came on a corner kick from Mia Loreto that bent around the corner of the goal and found the far, back corner of the net.

Esmeralda Rodriguez was one of the stars of the second half for the Spartans, contibuting on each of the first three goals in the final frame. She assisted on Mathys' goal in the 52nd minute, scored a goal of her own in the 70th minute, and then capped it off with an assist on a goal by Betsabe Ramirez to make it 10-0 at the 76-minute mark.

Savannah Trevino finished with a goal (32nd minute) and an assist (1st minute) in the first half, Jaquelyn Alvarez added an assist in each half (3rd and 82nd minutes) and Ramirez also dished a second-half assist to go along with her second-half goal.

Equally impressive to the number of the goals by the Spartans, MiraCosta also recorded an assist on 10 of its 11 goals as sharing the ball was a priorty from kickoff.

Next up, MiraCosta will head to Grossmont College on Friday, Oct. 14, for a 1 p.m. showdown as the Spartans look to increase their winning streak to three matches.
