Spartans Win Three Out of Four

Last week the MiraCosta women's basketball team was busy.  Over the span of five days they played four games, finishing with three wins.  

Game 1 - vs. College the Desert

To open the week the Spartans cruised to an easy 83-46 win over College of the Desert.  Samantha Mowrey and Mayleen Garcia led the way with 14 points each. Jasmine McNeal added a near double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds.  In addition to Mowrey's scoring she filled the stat sheet with seven rebounds, five assists and six steals.

The Spartans dominated the the game from beginning to end, scoring 26 points in the second quarter, where they also held the Roadrunners to just six points in that quarter.

Game 2 - vs. Saddleback

In the second game of the week MiraCosta earned a hard fought victory against Saddleback College.  The final score was 64-53 after a very close game for most of the 40 minutes. Dana Cephas led the way with 21 points and nine rebounds.  Allie Lorton added 15 points including a perfect 2-2 from behind the 3-point line. Ishazayia Carter made a noticeable impace on the game with her effort and 11 assists. 

The Spartans trailed by six at halftime but came out inspired and outscored the Bobcats 43-26 in the second half.

Game 3 - vs. Merced

In their third game in four days the Spartans took on Merced College but fell short 84-69.  Dana Cephas continued her hot shooting, scoring 25 points.  Samantha Lowrey, Allie Lorton, and Jasmine McNeal all added 10 points.  Ishazayia Carter finished the game with six rebounds and eight assists.

Game 4 - vs. Grossmont

In the final game of the week MiraCosta took on Grossmont College, earning a 59-51 win.  The Spartans got balanced scoring with Mayleen Garcia, Jailyn Ybarra-Garrett, and Dana Cephas all scored double digit point.  Jasmine McNeal and Amelika Tuiono combined for 14 points.  The Spartans earned the victory against the conference opponent, although it was not part of the conference schedule.

MiraCosta earned three wins, improving their record to 4-4. They will next be in action on Wednesday, December 6th at 6pm for a home match against San Bernardino Valley College.
