MiraCosta Runs Away With the Win

Women's Basketball Team Picture

A first half full of great effort and trapping defense by the Spartans led to a 36-25 lead after two quarters.  MiraCosta's aggressive defense created numerous turnovers in the first half and that trend continued in the second.  MiraCosta extended its halftime lead by forcing three turnovers in the first minute of the third quart. To further the run Britney Jarvis made two three-point field goals in the first two minutes followed by a three-point shot by Breanna Morales.  When Grossmont finally called timeout only two minutes had run off the clock and the score was 50-27.

With only nine active players MiraCosta kept the energy up and the pressure on.  Tervetta McGee added three steasl in the third quarter leading to transition opportunities for the Spartans.  Grossmont stayed in their zone defense giving Jarvis opportunities to find open shots.  At the end of the third quarter MiraCosta was able to create more separation with a score of 63-35.

The fourth quarter brought nothing different. The Spartans played with intensity and kept the Griffens uncomfortable on the offensive end.  Grossmont's shot selection and turnover count was reflective of the energy MiraCosta brought to the court.  The final score was 81-53 with Jarvis leading all scorers with 33 points.  With the win the Spartans improve to 10-3 on the season.

MiraCosta will next be in action on Wednesday January 10th at Southwestern College for a 5PM tipoff.
