SEARLES LEADS MIRACOSTA TO CONSOLATION CHAMPIONSHIP

It was their third game in as many days but the Spartans  proved that fitness wasn't an issue as they played their best basketball of the year in a 75-50 win over Victor Valley College. Fueled by a 25-point fourth quarter MiraCosta extended a nine point lead to 25.

The Spartans had three players in double-digit scoring led by Freshman Teya Searles (Chaparral High School) who posted a huge game with 19 points, 15 rebounds and 7 assists. Supporting Searles, Danielle Bosley and Colleen Murphy scored 17 and 14 respectively.

At the end of the first quarter MiraCosta trailed 21-16 but wouldn't trail again, outscoring the Rams 59-29 over the remainder of the game.  The Spartans shot an impressive 83% from the free-throw line.

Point Guard Ayli Tulberg gave another strong performance with nine points and eight assists.

With the win the Spartans earn the consolation Championship of the San Diego City College tournament.

MiraCosta is back in action on Thurday, December 15th with a single game against Southwestern College at home. Tip off is 5pm.
