Spartans Drop Close Game to Gavilan

In their second game of the year the MiraCosta women's basketball team showed incredible progress.  Against a team that entered the game undefeated (5-0) the Spartans did more than hold their own, they led at the end of the first quarter by a score of 18-14.  After a tied score at halftime MiraCosta exploded for a sixteen point quarter to take a five point lead heading into the last ten minutes of play.  Unfortunately, untimely turnovers in the fourth quarter led to a close loss with a final score of 58-51.

Colleen Murphy led MiraCosta scorers with ten points, shooting a perfect 6-6 from the free throw line. The Spartans shot 83% from the free throw line as a team.  MiraCosta outrebounded Gavilan by ten rebounds fueled by Victoria Wilson and Danielle Bosley with ten and nine respectively.

The Spartans will play College of the Desert tomorrow in the consolation bracket of the LA Southwest tournament at 3pm.
