Men's soccer earns conference shutout at College of the Desert

One week after Cheyne Hausmaninger netted a hat trick and the Spartans put a six-spot on the board, Julio Sanchez scored two goals and Victore Atide got the scoring started as the MiraCosta College men's soccer team earned another shutout victory in Pacific Coast Athletic Conference action. This time around, the Spartans blanked College of the Desert 3-0 on Tuesday in Palm Spring, California.

Yan Guimaraes Pereira De Moraes led MiraCosta (4-5-3, 4-1-2 PCAC) with five shots while Sanchez followed with four.

Eddie Franco earned two assists on the day, chipping in on Atide's goal early in the match before adding a helper on the first goal for Sanchez. Sanchez's second score was assisted by Luis Briseno.

Captain Raul Guzman, along with the back line of Ricardo Gonzalez, Juan Carlos Vasquez, Joseph Kicko and Emilo Bunnell Vasquez, combined with goalkeeper Luis Briseno, worked together to earn the shutout with solid team defending.

It was the third shutout win of the conference slate for the Spartans, and fourth time they have held a conference opponent scorelss so far this season, as MiraCosta rose to third in the PCAC standings. College of the Desert fell to 1-8-2 overall and 1-5-1 in the league.

Head Coach Frank Zimmerman also noted the contribution of Johnthan Palacios, saying "Johnny played important minutes in both halves, adding great zone defense and creating two scoring chances that resulted in near misses.

Next up, the Spartans will look to keep the strong play going as they begin a three-match home stand starting with San Bernandino College on Friday, October 7, at 4 p.m.
