The MiraCosta men's basketball team opened their season at the Don Gehler Memorial basketball tournament at Miramar College.  In their first game the Spartans took on Victor Valley College and finished with a 92-81 win.  Austin Bryant led the way with 36 points. Brady Twombly added 17 points and Kenan Brooks and Brett Hollins both scored 11.

The win over Victor Valley earned the Spartans a match up with Chaffey College on day two. MiraCosta led most of the first half but relinquished the lead just before the half.  The second half remained a close contest with numerous lead changes but in the end the Chaffey point guard proved to be too much, scoring eight straight points late in the game. MiraCosta dropped the game by a final score of 82-73. The Spartans' Bryant led the way again offensively with 22 points and a perfect 5-5 from the free throw line.  Isaiah Reed contributed 15 points and Brett Hollins added 10 points.

In the final day of the tournament MiraCosta faced Cerritos College, a pre-season top 20 team in the state.  The Spartans looked worn down from the previous forty minutes against Chaffey College and came up on the short end of a 77-59 score.

MiraCost is next in action on Thursday at Rio Hondo College (5pm) and on Friday at Cuyamaca College (5pm).
