Jovanhy Martinez Earns Prestigious Conference Honor

Jovanhy Martinez, a sophomore from the MiraCosta College's men's soccer program, has been an example of academic excellence at the highest level. After all of his dedication and hard work he has been recognized by the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference as the 2019-20 Scholar-Athlete of the Year. In Jovanhy's time at MiraCosta he completed 90 units with a cumulative 3.966 GPA.  He is a Mechanical Engineering major who is also a member of Phi Thetta Kappa and was named to the President's List.

Additionally, Jovanhy was selected for a special internship with NASA called the NCCAS (NASA Community College Aerospace Scholars.)  He has received scholarhip offers from UC Irvine and UC San Diego to continue his education next year.

MiraCosta athletic director Patrick Conahan said this about Jovanhy. "The entire MiraCosta community is very proud of Jovanhy.  He truly embodies what it means to be a student-athlete. He is a talented soccer player, a tremendous teammate, but equally as impressive is how he commited to his academic goals and his overall approach to the academic process. We wish him all the best whereever he ends up."
