Espinoza Scores Two, Spartans Stay Undefeated in Conference

Spartan players celebrate after scoring a goal against rival Palomar College.

Jason Espinoza is just a freshman, but in Friday's game against Mesa College, he made a clear impact on the field.  After two halves of soccer, Espinoza and his teammates traveled home from Mesa College with a 4-1 win, first place in conference, and an undefeated streak of eight games still alive.

Espinoza opened the scoring for MiraCosta in the 8th minute.  Later in the first half, sophomore forward George Silva added a goal in the 31st minute and then Rudy Padilla scored just before the end of the half.  The Spartans entered halftime with a 3-0 lead and control of nearly every facet of the game.  Despite having one of their defensive anchors out, the MiraCosta backline came together and played a complete 90 minutes.

In the second half the Spartans got their fourth goal from Espinoza when he score in the 65th minute of the game.

Mesa's goal is just the third goal scored on the Spartans in eight matches, a credit to the incredible team defensive played by all 11 players on the field.

With the win MiraCosta moves to 7-0-1 in conference, a 94% winning percentage. Their next match is on Tuesday, a long trip out to El Centro to take on Imperial Valley College.
