Late Goal Gives Spartans Win at City College

George Silva

The MiraCosta men's soccer team seems to be hitting their stride. With a 3-2 win over the San Diego City Knights they keep the undefeated streak alive in conference play.

Despite giving up a goal to the Knights in the 31st minute the Spartans stayed on task and played their best soccer. Spartan midfielder Bryan Sahagun gave a huge performance with two goals (48th and 82nd minute.) Sahagun's two goals gave MiraCosta a 2-1 lead with less than ten minutes to go in the match.  San Diego City answered in the 86th minute to tie the score and seemingly steal the victory away from the Spartans. This script was all too familiar for MiraCosta, having given up late goals in the Mesa and Imperial Valley games, leading to two draws.  This time, however, things would be different for the Spartans.  With just minutes left they continued to attach and found George Silva in the 88th minute for the game winning goal.

Working with the backline of Vance Bartelt, Liam Filler, Ricardo Acosta, and Tinh Ho, goalkeeper Adrian Valencia played all 90 minutes and recorded three saves.

MiraCosta improves to 3-0-2 in conference play and secures second place heading into an important meeting with first place Cuyamaca College on Friday.  The Spartans travel to Cuyamaca for a 3PM kickoff.
