Endless Chances for Spartans, Match Ends in Draw

The MiraCosta men's soccer team took on Imperial Valley College in a conference match on Tuesday.  It took a while for the Spartans to get their focus together but late in the first half had their first good oppotunity to score.  In the 44th minute Tinh Ho took a shot on goal after Jose Aguirre created an advantage and crossed the ball.  Both teams were scoreless heading into halftime but MiraCosta found their groove.

In the second half the Spartans had a myriad of chances to score, totalling 23 shots in the game.  MiraCosta had multiple corner kicks that put pressure on the opponents.  In the middle of the second half MiraCosta scored a header off a corner but it was called back because the ball bent out of bounds and then came back inbounds. The goal didn't count but it was clear that the momentum was on the Spartans' side. Bryan Sahagan, George Silva, David Guzman, Ho and Aguirre kept the pressure on, but it was Bobby Ehly that got MiraCosta on the scoreboard.  Ehly scored his goal in the 77th minute assisted by David Garcia.

After the goal the Spartans continued to attack and ended up with a penalty kick that unfortunately hit the pole and was secured by the defense.

MiraCosta maintained the 1-0 lead until a Spartan defender accidentally tripped an Imperial Valley player in the box giving them a penalty kick of their own in the 85th minute.  They converted the kick and tied the game at 1-1.  In the remaining minutes the Spartans had multiple chances to score but came up empty, ending the game in a draw.  MiraCosta's conference record is 1-0-2, keeping them undefeated.  The Spartans are next in action on Friday at home at 4PM.
