Win Streak Reaches Seven

The MiraCosta College men's basketball team is on a roll, winning its last seven games in a row.  The three most recent games in the in streak include wins over Imperial Valley, Oxnard, and ranked Moorpark College.  

 

Against Imperial Valley the Spartans maintained control of the game for a full forty minutes. Four players scored double digit points for MiraCosta including Kobe Smith (18), Donavan Freeman (15), Kai Burdick (12) and John Hapgood with 11.  Ten players scored for the Spartans who outscored their opponents 51-35 in the second half to secure the win.

The final score was 93-73, earning the Spartans their first conference win.

 

On December 21st MiraCosta hosted Oxnard College on the first day of the Clete Adelman Classic.  Kai Burdick led the Spartans with perfect 9-9 shooting, finishing with 18 points and six rebounds.  The big man has showed continued progress in his freshman year, coming off of a stint playing division 1 baseball.  Donavan Freeman added 15 and Jalen Zeno and Dylan Cabs both scored 11.  Freshman point guard DaVaughn McCrumb filled the stat sheet with an impressive game finishing with nine points, eight rebounds, eight assists and seven steals.  

MiraCosta led for the majority of the forty minutes, earning the 95-65 victory.

 

On December 22nd the Spartans hosted Moorpark College on the second day of the Clete Adelman Classic.  Moorpark entered the game with an 11-3 record and a state ranking to go along with it.  Both teams brought their best for the important game, but MiraCosta left with the win, by a final score of 79-71.  Kai Burdick and Dylan Cabs both finished with double-doubles. Burdick scored 10 points and grabbed 14 rebounds while Cabs finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds.  Kobe Smith scored 20 points including some key baskets at the end of the game.  The win was a key victory for the Spartans as the lead into conference play and have their sights set on the 3C2A state playoffs.
