CCCAA state playoff bracket

After a long year the MiraCosta men's basketball team did enough to earn the #21 seed in the CCCAA state playoffs.  In his third season Coach Ryan Frazer led the team to a 14-14 overall record and 10-6 in conference play, finishing in second place. The team's resume was strong with wins against Santiago Canyon (#5 seed), two wins against Miramar College (#13 seed) and Palomar College (#14 seed).  The Spartans also had close losses to multiple other teams in state playoff tournament.

As the #21 seed MiraCosta will travel to Cerro Coso College in Ridgecrest, California. The first round of the tournament is Tuesday, March 1st, with a 7PM tip off time.  The game can also be viewed at the following LIVESTREAM link

The Spartans are a balaced team with three players averaging double digit points.  Their leading scorer is sophomore Julian Williams (14 ppg) with sophomores Patrick McLachlan (13 ppg) and Carter Plousha (11 ppg) also in the top three.  MiraCosta has two other sophomores, Devynn Wakefield and Lamont Couch Jr., who bring experience from their first season in 2019-20. The Spartans also have a strong freshman contingency with Jordan Campbell, Nigel Wilson, Jayden Winfrey, Jordan Shelley and Jonathan Tchengang making an impact on the season.  Freshman Jayln White was also making a significant contribution before sustaining an injury.

MiraCosta's opponent competes in the Inland Empire conference and finished with a 22-6 record. They are averaging 80 points per game.  Their roster has just two freshmen and 10 of their 11 players from out-of-state.

The Spartans were most recently in the CCCAA state playoffs in 2017 when all-state player Buddha Boyd led them to a first round win versus Glendale College.
