
In their first game of the season, the MiraCosta College Spartans delivered a strong performance against the Mt. San Jacinto Eagles, securing a 3-1 victory at home on August 30, 2024. Under the guidance of Head Coach Rylee Arispe, the Spartans showcased their resilience and teamwork, setting the tone for what promises to be an exciting season.
The match started with a tightly contested first set, where the Spartans narrowly fell short, losing 25-27. However, they quickly regrouped and dominated the next three sets, winning 25-21, 25-14, and 26-24 to clinch the match.
Sophomore Daysha Halbert was a standout, leading the team with 21 kills and a .360 hitting percentage. Her aggressive play at the net and consistent serves kept the Eagles on their heels throughout the match. Alexis Jones and Sarah Campo-Sanchez also contributed significantly, with Jones recording 5 kills and 23 digs, and Campo-Sanchez adding 5 kills with a .250 hitting percentage.
MiraCosta's defense was solid, with Ellie Perez and Megan Jo Martin leading the way with 26 and 17 digs, respectively. Martin also added 38 assists, orchestrating the offense with precision.
The Spartans' serving game was strong, with Halbert and Feagaiga Naotala each serving up 2 aces. The team's blocking efforts were led by Naotala and Martin, who combined for 4 solo blocks and 3 block assists.
The Spartans will look to build on this momentum as they head into their next match, Friday at Santa Barbara City College.
