Spartans Sweep Rival Palomar

Paola Peralta prepares to return a serve.

After a tough battle with Mesa College on Wednesday night the MiraCosta women's volleyball team had to regroup and start preparation for cross-town rival Palomar College. The Spartans entered the game with a 9-4 record and a top 25 ranking in the state.

MiraCosta's preparation led to a quick 3-0 sweep which helped them to improve their overal record to 10-4, and 5-2 in conference play.  The Spartan's offensive attack was led by Savannah So'oto and Madison Nichols, both of whom finished with 11 kills. Freshman middle, Aria Barker, added eight kills and two blocks.  Setter Summer Hoslett distributed the ball for 20 assists.

On the defensive end the Spartans were anchored by libero Paola Peralta and Cameron Martinez with 13 digs each.  MiraCosta controlled the first two sets of the match, winning 25-21 and 25-17 and in the third showed great resolve, winning 28-26 to sweep the Comets.

The Spartans are next in action on Wednesday at home against Southwestern College at 6PM.  Only a restricted number of participants are allowed to attend with special permission.  With questions please reach out to athletic director, Patrick Conahan at pconahan@miracosta.edu.
