Every time MiraCosta and Palomar play there is something on the line.  Some years it is just bragging rights but this year with the Spartans entering the game with a 9-0 conference record and the Comets entering with an 8-1 conference record, there was a championship at stake.  After 40 minutes of competitive and well played basketball, MiraCosta won by a final score of 59-52.  With the win the Spartans improve to 18-5 and 10-0 in conference, earning them at least a share of the 2020 Pacific Coast Athletic Conference Championship.  Although historical records are incomplete, it appears the last Spartan women's basketball conference championship was in the early 1980's, making it nearly 40 years since MiraCosta has earned a title in women's basketball.

In the game MiraCosta trailed at the end of the first quarter 11-6 and then 20-17 at halftime.  After a slow first half the Spartans erupted for a huge 3rd quarter scoring 26 points and taking control of the game.  Despite some untimely turnovers MiraCosta scored enough baskets to hold on to their lead and earn the victory.

Chynna Cochran led all scorers with 21 points and Julia Iman added 17 points.  Center McKena Stoeff chipped in 10 points off the bench.  Despite not scoring much, Savannah Beasley, Emmy Wiemann, Kiva Reyes and Madison Rowe all made their impact on the game with defensive energy, rebounding and hustle plays.

MiraCosta has two conference games remaining and plays at home this Friday at 5PM against San Diego City College.
