In a closely contested match, the MiraCosta College men's soccer team defeated Palomar College 1-0 on Tuesday. With the win, the Spartans sweep the season series, an accomplishment that is becoming the norm between the two programs. MiraCosta currently sits in third place in the conference standings, half of a game behind the second place team. Palomar is currently is 6th place out of seven teams.
The match was high intensity on both sides, the difference being the lone goal by sophomore forward, Luke Adomey. Adomey scored in the 10th minute, assisted by Jack Vazquez and Charaboy Inriestra, to give the Spartans early control of the match. MiraCosta had near goals by Steven Renner and Diego Martinez.
The defensive effort for MiraCosta was strong, anchored by goalkeeper Bryan Casteneda and center backs Leo Ayala and Dominik Wicks. Casteneda made two big saves to earn the shutout. The clean sheet is their sixth of the season.
The Spartans will take the momentum from this win into their next match on Friday against Mesa College. The Friday match is a home game starting at 3pm.
