After an extensive search process, the MiraCosta College athletic department is excited to announce that Coach Rob Robinson will be the next head men's basketball coach. Coach Rob joins the Spartan family after most recently spending three years at East LA College and 20 years as the head coach at Notre Dame High School in Riverside, Ca.

During his time at East LA, Coach Rob helped the team to a cumulative 78-11 record, including a 29-1 record in 2019-20.  He assisted in the recruitment and development of many student-athletes that went on to earn scholarships at the next level.  While at East LA Coach Rob became well know as one of the prominent personalities on the Netflix documentary, Last Chance U.

Prior to joining the East LA coaching staff, Coach Rob helmed a very successful 20-year run as a head coach at Notre Dame High School in Riverside (1998-2019).  Over the two decades, the Titans amassed over 360 wins with six league titles, a CIF championship, three regional finals, and a state finals appearance in 2018.  He has been named Cal-Hi State Coach of the Year, SCIBCA Southern Coach of the Year, and the Press Enterprise Coach of the Year.  He also had coaching stops at Allen Hancock as an assitant coach (1997-98) and as a player and head coach for the Columbus Cagerz of the USBL.

Coach Robinson was born in Kansas City, Missouri and raised in Leavenworth, Kansas. He moved to California to finish high school, attending Cabrillo High in Lompoc, Ca.  After graduating Cabrillo High, he played basketball for three schools: Allen Hancock Community College, Stephen F. Austin State University and concluding his college hoops career at UC Riverside in 1996.  While at UC Riverside, he also ran track, qualifying for the NCAA national championship finals in the high jump in 1996.

He received his Bacherlor's degree in Sociology from UC Riverside in 1997 and his Master's degree in Instruction and Curriculum, from Emporia State University in Kansas in 2005.  He has been married to his wife Krysten for 24 years  and they have three sons KJ (23), Meda (23) and Justus (21).
