Men's Basketball Earns Back to Back Wins

After a tough loss to the top ranked Mt. San Jacinto College the MiraCosta men's basketball team found a way to regroup and earn back to back wins. The first of the two wins was on the road at College of the Desert. The Roadrunners entered the game with a 10-9 record and under new leadership of first year head coach Trent Skinner. The game was evenly matched, both teams playing with a high level of confidence.  After the first twenty minutes MiraCosta led 35-32.

In the second half the Spartans continued to extend their lead, outscoring Desert 39-31, and leading to the 11 point victory, 74-63. MiraCosta was led in scoring by freshman Marcus Foster (16) and Devyian Roberson (12).  Xavier Allision had an impressive line adding 11 points, seven assists, six steals and four rebounds. Dirk Helaire Jr added 10 points and 7 rebounds and sophomore forward Andrew Thomton contributed seven rebounds and a game high 11 rebounds.

With the win the Spartans improved to 10-10 on the season heading into a conference match with San Diego Miramar College.

The second win for MiraCosta was against a talented Miramar College team.  For the second game in a row the Spartans led at halftime (32-25) and then extended their lead in the second half for the victory.  The final score was 70-59, improving MiraCosta's overall record to 11-10 and moving them into third place in the conference standings.

The Spartans had four players in double-digit scoring, Xavier Allison (16), Dirk Helaire Jr (14), Devyian Roberson (13), and Marcus Foster (11).  Freshman forward Thomas Donati added eight points off the bench.  Allison led the Spartans with seven assists, and for the second game in a row Andrew Thomton led the team in rebounding with 10 total.
