Spartans Drop Close Game At Southwestern

Devyian Roberson

For all but the last few minutes the MiraCosta men's basketball team competed with a very talented Southwestern College team.  MiraCosta went into halftime with a 40-37 lead but in the end the Spartans just didn't have enough to close the game, losing by a final score of 77-63. The game was much closer than the score indicated with the Jaguars making numerous free throws late to pull away.  With the loss MiraCosta falls to 9-9 overall heading into their first conference game.

The Spartans were led in scoring by Xavier Allison (18 points), Devyian Roberson (12 points) and Tre Morgan (10 points).    Allison also led the Spartans in rebounding (9) and assistns (5).  The sophomore guard has continued to improve his play as the season has progressed and appears to peaking at the right time.

MiraCosta received strong play down low from two players.  Sophomore forward Andrew Thomton contributed nine points and eight rebounds while freshman forward Thomas Donati gave the Spartans big minutes of the bench finishing with eight points and eight rebounds, nearly a double-double.

MiraCosta is next in action on Friday, January 18th at home against Mt. San Jacinto College. Tip off is set for 5PM.
