After two days of play, MiraCosta College's Daysha Halbert and Kiara Keibel earned the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference pairs championship. 34 teams from seven colleges started play on Wednesday at MiraCosta College. After five hours and nearly 30 matches, the field was narrowed to eight, setting the lineup for the quarterfinals. On Friday, Halbert and Keibel were firing on all cylinders. First the pair defeated Palomar College's top seed in two games. Then, in the semifinals, they beat the top seed of the tournament, Gomez/Mojica, from San Diego Mesa College. That game also finished in two games. In the finals, the Spartan pair looked sharp, as they took down Milan/Springer, from Mt. San Jacinto College in a clear two game victory.
Daysha Halbert is a 5-8 sophomore from Oceanside, California. She has been all-conference in both indoor volleyball and beach volleyball. Kiara Keibel is a 5-8 freshman from Alberta, Canada, and was named to the All-Conference team this year. Although the two didn't start the season as partners, they have been nearly unstoppable since coming together. In team play they were a perfect 4-0, playing only in four matches because of injuries. In the PCAC pairs championship, they were 4-0, leaving them undefeated as the team enters the post season.
With the conference championship, Halbert and Keibel will be the top seed from the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference, heading into the SoCal Regional Pairs tournament on May 2-3.
