Hot Spartans Hold On For Win At Grossmont

The MiraCosta women's volleyball team traveled to Grossmont College to play the #10 ranked team in the state. The Spartans, who are ranked #14 in the state, took the first two games and a commanding lead in the match.  Sophomore middle Leigha Malecha was dominant, impacting the game both offensively and defensively.  The Spartans also got strong play from Hayley Torres, Savannah So'oto and Felicity So'oto.

After leading 2-0, MiraCosta lost the next two games to move both teams into the final and deciding fifth game.  The fifth game was intense with both team playing at a high level.  The Spartans clinched the win on a block by freshman Savannah So'oto.  Final scores of the match were 25-22, 25-14, 18-25, 25-27, 19-17.  With the victory the Spartans have now won six matches in a row.

MiraCosta improves to 17-5 overall and 11-3 in conference. 

MiraCosta is next in action on Friday at home against San Diego Miramar College at 6PM.
