In just their first game of the 2019 season the MiraCosta women's volleyball team is already making waves.  An early season ranking had the Spartans at #10.  Luckily, MiraCosta didn't let the ranking hold them back, handling the #4 ranked team in four sets. Final scores were 25-22, 21-25, 25-17 and 25-23.  In the first game MiraCosta trailed much of the way but found a way to take control and finish the 25-22 set.  In the second set the Spartans started strong with 6-0 lead but gave up the lead and eventually lost the set 21-25.  After winning the third game both teams knew the urgency of the fourth game wthich was the most competitive of the four.  The fourth set could've gone either way with both teams having opportunities to get control but it was the Spartans in the end that managed to win a few key points that led to the 25-23 result.

MiraCosta had a balance attack with strong play by Leigha Malecha, Savannah So'oto and Hayley Torres.  Overall the team hit a .429 on the night. The Spartans offense was organized by freshman setter Brooke Kuball whose played steadied her teammates.  The defense came up with some big blocks but also showed consistent passing led by liberos Ana Paola Peralta and Sadie Casillas.

The Spartans are next in action on Friday on the road against #6 Cypress College and Santa Monica College.
