The #6 seeded MiraCosta Spartans came into the CCCAA State Playoffs First Round with confidence and a 21-3 overall record. However, their opponent, Moorpark College was a worthy challenger and gave the Spartans everything they could handle. MiraCosta dropped the first game 22-25 and had to regroup before taking control of the next two sets, 25-14 and 25-10. Moorpark wouldn't quit, coming back to win game four 19-25 and forcing a fifth game.
In the fifth game the Spartans edged out the Raiders 15-12. MiraCosta received strong play from the depth of their roster including Hayley Torres, Halie Hess, Kacy Hele, Shannon Evans, Leigha Malecha, Ruki Kennedy, Felicity So'oto and Hanley Lomax.
With the win the Spartans survive and advance to play El Camino College (#3 Seed) on Saturday at El Camino. The game will begin at 6PM.
