MiraCosta Advances To The CCCAA State Championships with Sweep

In the second round of the CCCAA state playoffs the MiraCosta women's volleyball team hosted Long Beach City College.  Long Beach City upset the #3 seed, Santa Barbara City College, and came into the game with an 18-5 record.   The Vikings from Long Beach battled but when it was all said and done the Spartans finished the match with a 3-0 sweep, punching their ticket to the CCCAA State Championships at Solano College next weekend.  The final scores of the three sets were 25-21, 25-23 and 25-19.

The Spartans were led by Hayley Huntsman with 31 assists, six kills, eight digs and three aces.  Jazleigh Ortiz also shined in the pressure moments with 23 digs and four assists.  The trio of Halie Hess, Claire Kinder and Reilly Bosworth each had nine kills and Claudia Mathews added seven kills.  On the defensive side of the net Violeti Faleumu had 12 digs, Angela Docena added 11 digs and Kinder added 10.  MiraCosta averaged 15 kills per set and had 72 digs on the night. The Spartans improve to 26-6 and extend their win streak to 19 games.

With the win MiraCosta leaves their home floor undefeated for the 2017 campaign and will play next on Saturday in the CCCAA State Championships at Solano College. More information will be available at www.cccaasports.org/sports/wvball/index in the coming days.
