Balanced Attack Makes Spartans Difficult To Stop

The women's volleyball program at MiraCosta established a high standard at its inception four years ago however the current team is taking it to another level.  With a 3-0 sweep of the 2nd place Mt. San Jacinto College team, the Spartans continue to improve on their way towards a conference championship.  MiraCosta, now 20-6 overall, has won 13 games in a row and 17 out of their last 19.  In the 13 game win streak the Spartan squad led by Coach Kristen Wright has only lost one game total.

Wednesday night demonstrated why the Spartans are quickly climbing the state rankings and being considered a top team in the state.  MiraCosta was led by Hayley Huntsman with 31 assists, seven kills and an ace.  The defense was led by Jazleigh Ortiz (15 digs) and Angela Docena with 13 digs and a match record seven aces.  The high powered offense was initiated through Reilly Bosworth with nine kills on 12 attempts, a .750 hitting efficiency. Other notable contributors were Violeti Faleumu (8 kills), Claire Kinder (seven kills), and Claudia Mathews and Halie Hess with four each.

MiraCosta is next in action on Friday night at College of the Desert where they can clinch the conference championship.
