Spartans Sweep Comets In Conference Opener

On Wednesday night the Spartans made a short trip down the 78 freeway for their conference opening match against Palomar College.  MiraCosta entered the game as the #16 team in the state and certainly defended that ranking with a 3-0 sweep over their cross-town rival.  The final scores of the one-sided match were 25-15, 25-13, 25-19. The Spartans were led by Hayley Huntsman with 35 assists, three kills and nine digs.  Sophomores Claire Kinder, Claudia Mathews and Violeti Faleumu all made their impact felt on the court. Kinder added 11 kills and hit a .625, Mathews contributed 10 kills and four blocks, and Faleumu had nine kills and nine digs. Jazleigh Ortiz led the backline with 14 digs. 

MiraCosta improves to 14-6 and will next be in action on Friday against Mt. San Jacinto at Paloma Valley High School at 6pm.
