Fountain Scores Two, Spartans Tie

Sophie Fountain

On a beautiful day in Oceanside the MiraCosta College women's soccer team hosted LA Pierce for a non-conference match. In the first 40 minutes the Spartans controlled the ball but failed to score a goal early.  Pierce got on the scoreboard first when they got past the MiraCosta defensive line and scored  in the 41st minute.  The Spartans answered quickly with a cross from Alexus Beaz-Pecoraro to Sophie Fountain who headed the ball in for the first MiraCosta goal.

In the second half the action heated up with more shots on goal for both sides.  Pierce had a near miss and then minutes later scored their second goal in the 60th minute. Much like in the first half the Spartans responded almost immediately scoring in the 64th minute with a second goal from Sophie Fountain. MiraCosta kept the pressure on with shots in the 70th and 85th minute but couldn't pull ahead.

Goalkeeper Taylor Carney made a key save in the 78th minute when a Pierce defender managed to get free.  The save secured the win for the Spartans who improve their record to 0-1-1 heading into the second week of games.  MiraCosta will next be in action on Tuesday September 4th at 3:30pm at home.
