Women's Basketball Dominant in Week Two of Conference

Chynna Cochran goes to the basket.

To this point it has been a good year for the MiraCosta women's basketball team, and things don't appear to be slowing down. In week two of conference play the Spartans were dominant with wins at College of the Desert (60-35) and against Mesa College (73-42).  All year MiraCosta has been fueled by pressure defense and unselfish team play, both which have led to easy baskets. Against Desert the Spartans jumped out to an early 23-5 lead and never looked back.  Leading scorers were Chynna Cochran (14) and Uneque Fradiue (13). Cochran also added seven steals to lead the defensive effort.

All MiraCosta players played and scored. Savannah Beasley led the way with five assists, finding scorers throughout the game.  Julia Iman and Helena Betancourt both had a game high seven rebounds.

Against Mesa College just two days later the Spartans shot an impressive 52% from the floor, led by Cochran's 18 points and 8-14 shooting.  Off the bench Victoria Wilson played important minutes and added eight points and six rebounds.  Wilson's hustle defensively is just one example of a team that has committed to playing for eachother every night.

MiraCosta's next game will be at Palomar College on Wednesday January 30th at 7PM.
