Slow Third Quarter and Missed Free Throws, Spartans Drop Game to Roadrunners

Britney Jarvis and Savannah Beasley

In Saturday's MiraCosta women's basketball game the Spartans dominated the first two quarters and led by ten at halftime, 44-34, before dropping the game 85-74. MiraCosta controlled the pace of the game with pressure defense that led to steals and easy scoring opportunities. Despite their size, the visiting Rio Hondo struggled to organize their offense. After halftime the Spartans only scored ten points in the third quarter, the turning point in the game.  At the same time the Roadrunners hit their stride scoring 29 points in the third quarter and taking control of the lead.  MiraCosta had no answer for the inside presence of Rio Hondo's big players, scoring a total of 64 of their 85 points.

In the fourth quarter MiraCosta took the lead back, 71-70, after Britney Jarvis made her third straight three point shot of the quarter. Unfortunately, after Jarvis' shots the Spartans only scored three freethrows which wasn't enough for the win.

MiraCosta was led in scoring by Jarvis with 18 points. Savannah Beasley added 14 points, bringing her normal energy and competitive spirit to the court. Uneque Fradiue contributed 12 points, with two made three point shots.

The Spartans missed a total of 16 freethrows, 22-38 on the night.

MiraCosta will next be in action on Wednesday December 5th at Compton College at 6PM.
