The Spartan women's basketball team opened the second annual Coast Classic basketball tournament against West LA College in what was a high energy game. Both teams came out with aggressive full court defense which led to a fast pace and great entertainment for the fans.
MiraCosta began play with twenty points in the first quarter led by Britney Jarvis' eight points. Jarvis finished with a total of 22 points but the leading scorer was Colleen Murphy scoring 28 points including going 14-19 from the free throw line. Breanna Morales also added 11 points and some effective driving and passing
The game was tied at halftime 32-32 and West LA took a small lead at the end of the third quarter. The determined Spartans continued to fight with aggressive defense and trapping but West LA College's athleticism proved difficult to contain. The final score was 78-68 ending in a close loss for MiraCosta against a quality opponent.
MiraCosta will play the second day of the Coast Classic tomorrow at 6PM against LA Harbor College.
