Spartans Give Up PK and Fall to Pirates

Player runs after the ball.

The MiraCosta College Spartans (1-2-1) took on the Orange Coast College Pirates (2-1-1) in Friday's game in Oceanside. The Spartans played a high energy and physical game, but fell short in the second half when the Pirates scored on a penalty kick. Goalkeeper Seth Ketterer blocked the inital kick, but the Pirates gained a second chance which resulted in a goal. Ketterer had multiple big saves in the game, stoppting the Pirates' other chances to score. The Spartans had multiple shot attempts from forwards Heron Martinez and Lucca Mina, but couldn't finish. The Spartan's defense was led by captian Manuell Kariuki and also anchored by Marley Areola and Fernando Martinez.

The difficult schedule continues for the Spartans with their next match on Thursday at home capping off Spirit Week.  Kickoff is at 4PM.
