The rivalry game between MiraCosta and Palomar has decades of history but each time they take the field it seems especially significant. The colleges, both located on the 78 freeway, are separated by only by 12 miles so the student-athletes who compete often have known eachother for many years.

Beyond being a rivalry game Tuesday's 4PM game also represented the first conference game for each team.  Both teams started with high energy, both coming up empty on opportunities to score.  The Spartans got on the scoreboard first with a Cooper Higgins goal assisted by Fernando Martinez.  MiraCosta went into halftime with the one goal lead but quickly gave up two goals to the visiting Comets in the second half.  

Many of the opportunities that each team had to score were a result of fouls by the other team.  Numerous free kicks created chances bringing excited to the game.

Just before injury time in the second half the Spartans scored the equalizing goal.  Freshman Jordan Curry got credit for the goal.  After injury time the game ended in a 2-2 tie.

MiraCosta will play their next game at home on Friday, September 15th at 4pm.
