After nearly 70 years in the old MiraCosta gymnasium, the athletic department opened a brand new state of the art facility that will support the college's athletic department moving forward. The men's basketball team opened the new gym in an impressive 100-60 win over Cuyamaca College. The Spartans dominated from the beginning and finished with seven different players scoring 10 or more points.
Leading the way was 6-11 center, Kai Burdick who shot an impressive 8-8 from the field and finished with 19 points and seven rebounds. Burdick, who transferred to MiraCosta after playing Division 1 baseball for two years, has been a nice addition for the program. His progress week to week has been notable and has given Coach Rob additional options around the basket.
Freshman guard Mason Bowers also had a hot shooting night. Bowers finished with 17 points, making four 3-point shots. DaVaughn McCrumb, Kobe Smith, Jalen Zeno and John Hapgood all scored ten or more points.
In the game MiraCosta made 92% of their freethrows, and outrebounded their opponents 53-32. With the win, the Spartans improve to 8-6 and 2-0 in conference play.
