Historic Post Season Run Comes to End

MiraCosta player rebounds the basketball during the Elite 8 game at West Hills College.

The historic post season run for the MiraCosta men's baskeball team finally came to an end in a close loss to the overall #1 seed, Community College of San Francisco.  The Spartans finished their season as one of the final eight teams playing in the state of California and one of the last four teams in Southern California.  The 81-72 score wasn't indicative of how competitive the game was, with MiraCosta leading for more than half of the contest.

The Spartans received balanced scoring with five players finishing with more than ten points.  Sophomore guard Julian Williams led the way with 17 points. Williams established himself as one of the top shooting guards in the state, shooting a high percentage from the 3-point line but also balancing his attack with drives to the rim. Sophomores Patrick McLachlan and Lamont Couch Jr. added 15 and 14 respectively. Both McLachlan and Couch Jr. raised their play to a championship level late in the year showing strong on court composure and confidence.

Sophomore forward Carter Plousha gave MiraCosta his usual near double-double scoring 10 points and finishing with 7 rebounds.  Freshman Jordan Campbell, one of MiraCosta's most consistent outside threats finished the game with 10 points.

Coach Ryan Frazer cemented his legacy at MiraCosta taking his team to the Elite 8, which had not previously been accomplished at MiraCosta under the current playoff format.  The Spartans finish the season 17-15 overall, 10-6 in conference and earned was on of the lowest seeds to ever make the CCCAA men's basketball state championships.
