Spartan Open Season at Miramar College Tournament

The MiraCosta College men's basketball team opened their season with a win against Golden West College by a final score of 69-59.  The Spartans were led in scoring by Julian Williams and Devynn Wakefield.  With the win the Spartans moved forward to the semifinals of the Don Gehler tournament to face off with San Diego City College.

In day two of the tournament the Spartans started the game strong, taking a large lead against ranked San Diego City College.  After leading 41-26 at halftime City slowly cut into the lead leading to a tie game with 20 seconds left.  The Spartans did everything they could but gave up a shot at the buzzer that helped City win the game by the final score of 81-79.  Although dropping the game MiraCosta showed that when they play their best they can compete with the top teams in the state. Wakefield led the way with 19 points and Julian Williams added 17. Jordan Shelly, Carter Plousha and Patrick McLachlan scored 12, 10 and 10 respectively. The Spartans shot an impressive 93% from the free throw line and 47% from behind the 3-point line.
