Spartans Drop Game to #26 In State

The MiraCosta men's basketball team played their home opener on Wednesday against the #26 team in the state of California.  The Spartans began the game with high energy and took an early lead.  In the first half MiraCosta got strong play from Dirk Helaire II and Carter Plousha who both attacked the rim and scored in the paint.  The first half was a game of catch up. When Santiago Canyon College would catch up, the Spartans would make another run to extend the lead again.  At the end of the first half Santiago Canyon made a final run to take the lead 36-35 heading into the break. 

The Spartans stayed close for most of second half but finally lost contact and trailed by eight points. They showed their resilience in continuing to fight back to give themselves a chance to win the game.  In the second half Stone Parker and Marcus Foster got hot and critical times. In the end, MiraCosta came up short and dropped the game by a final score of 73-66.  Leading scores for the Spartans were Helaire II (19), Devynn Wakefield (10) and Stone Parker (10). 

MiraCosta's overall record moves to 2-2 heading into their next game at Saddleback on November 20th.
