Spartans Hold On Against Orange Coast

Thomas Donati

The MiraCosta men's basketball game against Orange Coast College was a tale of two halves.  In the first half the Spartans were carried by freshman Thomas Donati who scored ten of the Spartan's 33 points. MiraCosta entered halftime trailing by seven, 40-33. The second half was a different story with the Spartans outscoring the Pirates 40-31, enough to hold on for the 73-71 win.

After trailing by more than ten at points in the game the Spartans took the lead in the second half and did enough for the victory.  Late baskets by sophomore Xavier Allison, Dirk Helaire Jr, Devyian Roberson and Thomas Donati helped MiraCosta maintain their advantage.

The Spartans were led in scoring by Donati with 16 points but also received support from Tre Morgan (12 points) and Helaire Jr (11 Points).

MiraCosta (6-5) won the game despite shooting 15-34 from the freethrow line, an area they will need to improve if they hope to continue their success.

The Spartans are next in action on Thursday, December 13th, at Irvine Valley College at 6PM.
