In the second round of the Bill Brummel Classic the MiraCosta men's basketball team did enough to earn a 78-72 win over LA Trade Tech College. The Spartans were led by the energy of freshman Tre Morgan who scored 12 points and collected 14 rebounds. Cole Barton led MiraCosta in scoring with 19 points on 7-12 shooting and 5-5 from the free throw line. Cody Hicks and Mark Olenjniczak both added 15 point and 10 points respectively. The win improved the Spartans overall record to 5-8 leading into Saturday's game with Irvine Valley.
For the second time this year the Spartans came up short against the Irvine Valley Lasers on the third day of a tournament. The final score was 87-75. For MiraCosta Cole Barton (12), Andrew Thomton (11) and Xavier Allison (10) all scored double digits.
MiraCosta will next be in action on January 2nd at 6PM against Antelope Valley College in the 2nd annual Clete Adelman Classic basketball tournament at MiraCosta.
