Allison and Jensen Lead Spartans To Win

Despite a sloppy start to their first game of the season the MiraCosta men's basketball team settled in to beat Rio Hondo College by a final score of 69-61.  The Spartans (1-0) were led by freshman point guard Xavier Allison who recorded a double-double in his first collegiate game with 13 points and 10 assists.  Sophomore Anthony Jensen contributed 12 points on four made three point shots that shifted momentum for MiraCosta. Tre Morgan played a complete game finishing with nine points and eight rebounds.

In an even first half the Spartans received great energy off the bench from Andrew Thomton by the way of eight points and three rebounds.  In the second half MiraCosta pulled away by extending their defense using Cole Barton, Gagan Nijjar and Mark OlejniczakRob Phillips added seven points and some important defensive enegy matching up with Rio Hondo's best scorer.

MiraCosta will match up tomorrow with Cerritos College who beat Southwestern College in the 12pm game in the bracket.  The game will tip off at 4pm.  A full bracket can be found here.
