Spartans Optimistc For Upcoming Season

The 2017-18 MiraCosta College men's basketball team will open their campaign on Thursday November 2nd against Rio Hondo College in the Don Gehler Memorial Tournament at Miramar College. Highlights of the schedule include the opening tournament at Miramar College on November 2-4, the Clete Adelman Classic tournament at MiraCosta on January 2-4, and Spirit Night on Saturday February 3, 2018. 

The Spartan roster lists five sophomores and nine freshman. Returning sophomores include Cody Hicks (Mission Hills), Tarail Gordon (El Camino), Anthony Hubbard (Vista) and Mark Olejniczak.  Sophomore transfer Anthony Jensen comes to MiraCosta from Embry Riddle University in Arizona and attended Madison High School in San Diego. Freshman Connor Ramirez (Rancho Buena Vista) was a red-shirt last year at MiraCosta. Incoming freshman include Xavier Allison (Sage Creek), Andrew Thomton (Rancho Bernardo), Tre Morgan (Carlsbad), Jack Jones (Fallbrook) Rob Phillips (Temecula Valley), Cole Barton (Burbank), Gagan Nijjar (Yuba City) and Aleks Pocej (Murrieta Mesa).

MiraCosta's roster has strong guard play, shooters, size and depth. 

Coach Patrick Conahan returns to the program after a one year hiatus to coach his 12th year as the head coach and his 17th year coaching at MiraCosta.  Conahan was the assitant coach to Clete Adelman previous to begininng his tenure as the head coach.  Assistant coaches include Anthony Taylor (6th Year), Marcellus Chambers (2nd Year) and Austin Hershberger (1st Year).  Hershberger was a member of the 2013 MiraCosta conference championship team before transferring to Greenville College in Illinois.

The Spartan basketball program also includes red-shirt and grey-shirt players, Noah Hix (Christian Life Academ), Alec Peneschi (La Costa Canyon), and Joshua Brown (Escondido Charter). Adrian Dority will serve as the team manager for the 2017-18 season.
