Spartans Fall Short Against Ranked Opponent

The MiraCosta Spartans gave the San Bernardino Valley College Wolverines everything they could handle on Wednesday night but fell short of the victory with the final score of 78-70.  The league leading San Bernardino Valley team entered the game with a #4 ranking in the latest state poll and a 21-5 record.  With the loss the Spartans fall to 12-14 but remain in fourth place in the second toughest conference in Southern California.

From the tip off the game was physical and highly competitive.  The Spartans and Wolverines exchanged leads and for the majority of the forty minute contest the lead was within single digits.

The Spartans were led in scoring by Brettt Hollins (20 points) but also received strong contributions from Daymarcco Green (15) and Billy Brown (14).  Brady Twombly added nine points and six rebounds. Off the bench Mike Brown brought energy and toughness and scored eight points.

With under a minute in the game the Spartans had a fast break dunk attempt that would've cut the lead to three but the ball bounced out and after free-throws the Wolverines finished the game with the eight point victory.

MiraCosta has three more scheduled games before playoffs and will next be in action on Friday February 10th at 5pm at home.
