Spartans Win Two and the Consolation Championship

Over the weekend the MiraCosta men's basketball team travelled to Antelope Valley College for the Gregg Anderson Memorial Basketball Tournament. The Spartans (5-6) earned two wins and the consolation championship after exploding for 257 points in three games.  The high powered offense was led by Austin Bryant and Brady Twombly, both of whom were effective in the paint and from the perimeter.  

In the opening game of the tournament MiraCosta came up short against Ventura College, 83-74.  Bryant and Twombly led the Spartans in scoring with 21 and 17 respectively.  Daymarcco Green added 13 and Brett Hollins had a near double double with nine points and eight rebounds.

In the second game of the tournament the Spartans played Rio Hondo College. The was the third meeting between the two teams this season, each with one win.  MiraCosta took control from the start and ran away with an 82-69 final score. The Spartans had four players score double-digits including Hollins (18), Twombly (18), Bryant (12) and Green (11). Billy Brown, Josh Pilling and Kenan Brooks combined for 17 points. The Spartans were efficient offensively with only nine turnovers and making 83% of their free-throws.

In the consolation championship game the Spartans faced LA Harbor College. After racing out to a ten point lead at halftime MiraCosta never looked back and finished the game with a 92-78 final score.  Again Bryant (30 points) and Twombly (23 points) led the way proving to be a difficult match up for the opposing teams. Josh Pilling made his impact felt with 11 points and 8 rebounds for his biggest contribution of the season.

The Spartans play their first home game of the season on Wednesday December 7th at 5pm.
